Holy Spirit Hospital Awarded "A" for Patient Safety - The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits, presented the hospital with the "A" Hospital Safety Score. An expert panel calculates the score using publicly available data on patient injuries, medical and medication errors, and infections.

Holy Spirit has earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Bronze Quality Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.

U.S. News & World Report has ranked Holy Spirit Hospital as one of the best hospitals in Pennsylvania for 2013-14. The annual U.S. News Best Hospitals rankings, now in their 24th year, recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients. U.S. News & World Report has ranked Holy Spirit Hospital as one of the top 20 “Best Hospitals” in Pennsylvania; one of the five “Best Hospitals” in South Central Pennsylvania; and one of the two “Best Hospitals” in the Harrisburg Metro area. Holy Spirit Hospital was honored as a high-performer in eight specialties: diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology, and urology.


Blue Distinction Center+ for Cardiac Care  Highmark Blue Shield has recognized Holy Spirit Hospital as one of the first hospitals in the nation to receive a Blue Distinction Center+SM designation in the area of cardiac care, as part of the Blue Distinction Centers for Specialty Care® program. Research shows that Blue Distinction Centers+ demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients, with lower rates of complications following certain cardiac procedures and lower rates of healthcare associated infections, compared with their peers. Blue Distinction Centers+ are also 20 percent more cost-efficient for those same procedures.


Blue Distinction Center+ for Knee and Hip Replacement - Highmark Blue Shield designated Holy Spirit Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center for Knee and Hip Replacement. Research confirms that the newly designated Blue Distinction Centers+ demonstrate better quality and improved outcomes for patients, with lower rates of complications and readmissions than their peers. Blue Distinction Centers+ also are more than 20 percent more cost-efficient.

Blue Distinction Center+ for Spine Surgery - Highmark Blue Shield designated Holy Spirit Hospital as a Blue Distinction Center+ for Spine Surgery by demonstrating its commitment to quality care, resulting in better overall outcomes for spine surgery patients. Research confirms that hospitals designated as Blue Distinction Centers+ for Spine Surgery have fewer complications and fewer hospital readmissions than non-designated hospitals and deliver care more efficiently than their peers. Blue Distinction Centers must provide comprehensive inpatient spine surgery services, for two of the following three types of procedures: laminectomy, anterior spinal fusion, and posterior spinal.

Harrisburg Magazine “Readers' Choice” 2013 - Holy Spirit Hospital was voted "Readers' Choice" in Harrisburg Magazine's 2013 readers' poll. Holy Spirit Hospital also was named "Readers' Choice" in 2012.


Ryder, Barnes & Associates “Readers' Choice” 2013 - Holy Spirit’s Ryder, Barnes & Associates Pediatrics, was voted "Readers' Choice" pediatrician in Harrisburg Magazine's 2013 readers' poll. Ryder, Barnes & Associates was also named "Readers' Choice" in 2010.

Carlisle Sentinel "Best of the West" Shore 2013 - Readers of the Carlisle Sentinel voted Holy Spirit Health System “Best of West Shore 2013” Medical Facility/Urgent Care. Carlisle Family Health Center was the runner up in the Medical Facility/Urgent Care category for the “Best of Carlisle 2013” award.

2013 HealthCare's "Most Wired" - Holy Spirit Health System was named one of the 2013 HealthCare’s “Most Wired.” Only 289 organizations nationwide made this list. In the 15th annual survey conducted by Hospitals & Health Networks, the flagship publication of the American Hospital Association, results show U.S. hospitals have made big strides in laying the foundation for robust clinical information systems.

  Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers - Holy Spirit Hospital has earned Advanced Certification for Primary Stroke Centers from The Joint Commission, in conjunction with The American Heart Association/American Stroke Association. This certification recognizes the high quality care provided to meet the specialized and unique needs of stroke patients.

Holy Spirit Hospital has achieved Magnet® recognition as a reflection of its nursing professionalism, teamwork, and superiority in patient care. Magnet recognition is determined by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, which ensures that rigorous standards for nursing excellence are met. With this credential, Holy Spirit Hospital joins the Magnet community—a select group of 395 healthcare organizations out of nearly 6,000 U.S. healthcare organizations.


“100 Great Places to Work in Healthcare” - Holy Spirit Hospital was named to the 2013 annual list of “100 Great Places to Work in Healthcare” published by Becker's Hospital Review and Becker's ASC Review. Editorial teams for the publications accepted nominations and selected recipients based on nominations and thorough editorial research.

  Harrisburg Magazine “Simply the Best” 2011 - Holy Spirit Hospital was voted "Simply the Best Hospital" for the fourth year in a row in Harrisburg Magazine's 2011 readers' poll. Holy Spirit Hospital also was named "Simply the Best" in 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2004.

 
Devonshire Family Health Center “Simply the Best” 2011 - Holy Spirit’s Devonshire Family Health Center was voted "Simply the Best Family Doctor" in Harrisburg Magazine's 2011 readers' poll.

 
Best Places to Work in PA 2011 - Holy Spirit Health System was named one of the “Best Places to Work in PA” in the large-sized company category in 2011. Holy Spirit Hospital was also named “Best Places to Work in PA” in 2010, 2009, 2004 and 2003.

 
  National "Top Performer" for Quality. The Joint Commission named Holy Spirit Hospital one of the top performers on key quality measures in its "Improving America’s Hospitals: The Joint Commission’s Annual Report on Quality and Safety 2011 report." Holy Spirit ranks in the top 14 percent of all Joint Commission accredited healthcare facilities across the nation. Holy Spirit received top honors for heart attack, heart failure and pneumonia care.

  Society of Thoracic Surgeons Three-Star Rating. Holy Spirit Hospital earned the top rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for the quality of its heart surgery program. STS uses a comprehensive rating system to determine the quality of cardiac surgery among hospitals across the country. Only 12 to 15 percent of hospitals nationwide received this three-star rating, which denotes the highest category of quality.

Central PA 2010 Hot List - Holy Spirit was named as one of the region’s “Hot” hospitals in Central PA Magazine’s annual readers’ “Hot List” poll. The Center for Women’s Health, Camp Hill, was named as one of the “Hot” obstetric practices.

Ryder, Barnes & Associates “Readers' Choice” 2010 - Holy Spirit’s Ryder, Barnes & Associates Pediatrics, was voted "Readers' Choice" pediatrician in Harrisburg Magazine's 2010 readers' poll.


Breast Imaging Center of Excellence - The American College of Radiology recently designated Holy Spirit’s Women’s Imaging Center a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence (BICOE). The designation is awarded to breast imaging centers that achieve excellence by seeking and earning accreditation in all of the ACR’s voluntary breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.


Gold Seal of ApprovalTM - The Joint Commission awarded Disease-Specific Care Certification, the Gold Seal of Approval™ for health care quality, to Holy Spirit’s heart attack care program. To earn this distinction, a disease management program undergoes an extensive, unannounced, on-site evaluation by a team of Joint Commission reviewers every two years.


The Best of West Shore 2010 - Readers of the Carlisle Sentinel voted the Holy Spirit Hospital "Best of the West" for 2010 in the survey's hospital category. Holy Spirit Hospital was also named "Best of the West" in 2008 and 2009.
