Girls' Night Out Slated for October

Posted: 11 September 2012

Holy Spirit Health System is hosting its “Spirit Girls’ Night Out” on Friday, October 12, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Harrisburg Area Community College’s Wildwood Conference Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Spirit Girls’ Night Out will bring women together for fun, inspiration and learning with a “Be Dazzling” theme. The focus is on disease prevention and health education for women of every generation.

Free health screenings, including body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, bone density, carotid artery, glucose and cholesterol and peripheral artery disease (PAD), as well as cardiovascular risk and sleep assessments, will be offered at the event.  Participants can gather health information, talk with physicians, take advantage of the Mary Kay and Avon 5-minute makeovers, enjoy shopping, chair massage by HACC Massage School, door prizes and more. There will also be a free Zumba class presented by the Harrisburg Area YMCA, belly dancing demonstrations presented by Egyptian Moon Dance Company and 15-minute chair Pilates workouts presented by Absolute Pilates of Mechanicsburg.  Attendees must pre-register for the health screenings and chair massage by calling 717-763-2100.

Capital Cardiovascular Associates will present a special health program on women and heart disease. Kunkel Surgical Group will lead “Hugging Your Curves,” a discussion about diet, exercise and surgical options for weight reduction. There will also be a session on healthy nutrition for women called “My Plate,” led by Julia Kearns, a registered dietitian.  Julia will explain how to segment your dinner plate into healthy compartments and give tips on how to incorporate healthy choices into that plate.

Spirit Girls’ Night Out is a free event open to women age 18 and older. Women may pre-register for the event by calling 717-763-2100. Though advance registration is not required, it is appreciated.

Participants are welcome to become members of the Spirit of Women program, which will entitle them to discounts at partner businesses, as well as discounted or free entry to future Spirit of Women events and programs.
