<p>Holy Spirit Diabetes Services is offering “Building a Healthy Life with Diabetes” group classes for those interested in learning more about how to manage their diabetes.</p>

<p>The group classes will provide attendees with information and support from the educator and their peers as they learn to successfully manage their diabetes. The classes will cover:</p>

<ul>
<li>The basics of diabetes, blood glucose testing, and A1c</li>
<li>Heart disease, lipids, and blood pressure</li>
<li>The importance of exercise and physical activity</li>
<li>Carbohydrate counting, label reading, and tips for eating out</li>
<li>Weight management and practical ways to eat a well-balanced diet</li>
<li>Diabetes medications, high/low blood glucose management, and sick days</li>
<li>Care of eyes, skin, feet, and mouth</li>
<li>Goal setting and achieving effective behavior changes</li>
</ul>

<p>Classes are offered in a four-week series at two different times: Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. To register for the “Building a Healthy Life with Diabetes” group classes, please call 717-763-2466.</p>

<p>Classes may be covered by your insurance. Interested individuals should contact their insurance provider to see if this class is covered.</p>

Mothers can bring their babies up to 15 months old. “Mom’s Place” is for women who feel overwhelmed, sad, worried, or need extra support. “Mom’s Place” meets every Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 20 Erford Road, Suite 11, Lemoyne.</p>

<p>“Mom’s Place” is led by a clinician from Holy Spirit Hospital’s Behavioral Health department. The group is educational, supportive, and fun. Light refreshments are provided. “Mom’s Place” also hosts family night where women can bring partners or spouses. For more information, please call 763-2200.</p>

<p>Holy Spirit Hospital offers free and low-cost health screenings to the public each month. Screenings include blood pressure, bone density, cholesterol ($5), colorectal, and glucose ($2). The screenings are offered in the hospital auditorium from 2 to 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month. On October 1, individuals 18 years of age and older can get their flu shots during this event. Flu shots are $33. Holy Spirit will submit the charge for those with Medicare Part B. Cash or check will be accepted. If you have any questions, please call 763-2553.</p>

<p>Holy Spirit also offers free blood pressure screenings at the Cleve J. Fredricksen Library, 100 North 19th Street, Camp Hill, each Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and at the Joseph T. Simpson Library, 16 North Walnut Street, Mechanicsburg, on the first Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. until noon.</p>

<p>Holy Spirit Imaging Centers offer free bone density screenings at convenient locations every month. <p>Holy Spirit’s support group for those who suffer from atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) will be held in December.</p>

<p>Join Safwat Gassis, MD, FACC, David Man, MD, FACC, and Stacey Solomon, RN-BC, from Holy Spirit’s Atrial Fibrillation Center – A Geisinger Affiliate, on Wednesday, December 17, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., for a discussion about “Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Failure: What You Need to Know.”</p>

<p>Atrial fibrillation can lead to heart failure, and heart failure can lead to atrial fibrillation. Attendees will learn more about these closely associated illnesses. The team will review treatment options, as well as coping strategies. </p>

<p>Holy Spirit Hospital has teamed up with cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and health professionals to provide cardiac health education, as well as group support to patients, their families, and caregivers to promote lifelong heart healthy living.</p>

<p>Holy Spirit’s “Spirited Hearts” cardiac support group meeting will be held on Wednesday, December 17, from 6 to 7:30 p.m., in Holy Spirit Hospital’s Auditorium C&amp;D. Launa Snyder, MS, Coordinator of Outpatient Behavioral Health Services at Holy Spirit, will present “Holiday Stress.” A question and answer session will follow the presentation.</p>

<p>On Wednesday, January 28, 2015, Christopher Spizzieri, DO, Holy Spirit Cardiology, will present “What is Ejection Fraction?” He will also speak about nutritional supplements.</p>

<p>Classes are offered in a four-week series at two different times: Tuesdays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Fridays from 10 a.m. to noon. To register for the “Building a Healthy Life with Diabetes” group classes, please call 717-763-2466.</p>

<p>Holy Spirit Health System offers a free support group for pregnant women and new mothers. Mothers can bring their babies up to 15 months old. “Mom’s Place” is for women who feel overwhelmed, sad, worried, or need extra support. “Mom’s Place” meets every Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at 20 Erford Road, Suite 11, Lemoyne.</p>

<p>“Mom’s Place” is led by a clinician from Holy Spirit Hospital’s Behavioral Health department. The group is educational, supportive, and fun.
