Free Program on Living Wills and Advance Directives
The 6th annual National Healthcare Decisions Day is Saturday, April 20. This day was designated to bring awareness to advance directives and living wills. These important documents represent what healthcare choices you’d like or not if you were unable to communicate due to an accident or illness. These documents also allow you to name a healthcare power of attorney or legal advocate to make these decisions for you if you are unable.
Spring Festival to be held in April
Holy Spirit Hospital Auxiliary will hold its 16th annual Spring Festival on Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Adams Ricci Park in Enola. The event will include a flower sale and chicken barbeque, auxiliary bake sale, craft vendors and children’s games and activities.
Educational Seminar on How to Live Healthy with Heart Disease
Holy Spirit Health System will host a free educational seminar on heart disease in February. Christopher Spizzieri, DO, FACC, FASE, a cardiologist with Capital Cardiovascular Associates, will present “Healthy Living with Heart Disease” on Thursday, February 21, at 6 p.m. The lecture will be held in Holy Spirit Hospital’s Auditorium.
Day of Dance for Health Schedule Announced
Holy Spirit Health System is hosting its sixth annual Spirit of Women dance event in February. “Day of Dance for Your Health” will be held on Saturday, February 23, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Radisson Hotel in Camp Hill. The day will include dancing demonstrations and instruction, learning how to keep your heart healthy and more! Registration is required to attend this free event. Creighton Model FertilityCare Practitioner Education Program Offered
Holy Spirit Health System will host its fourth annual Creighton Model FertilityCare Practitioner Education Program for those interested in teaching others how to use this model. Applications are currently being accepted for the 13-month Practitioner Program which consists of two education phases, two supervised practica and an on-site visit. Students are taught basic and advanced aspects of the Creighton Model FertilityCare System.
Educational Lecture on Weight Loss with the Lap-Band® to be Offered
Holy Spirit Health System will host a free educational seminar on for those who want to learn more about weight loss with the Lap-Band®. J. Bret DeLone, MD, Kunkel Surgical Group, will present “How can we help you reach your weight loss goals” on Thursday, January 17, at 6 p.m. in the Holy Spirit Hospital auditorium.
Holy Spirit Hospital First Area Hospital to Use Innovative Disinfection System
Holy Spirit is the first hospital in the area, and the second in the state of Pennsylvania, to use Xenex Healthcare Services' room disinfection system. Xenex's three-foot high portable device uses a xenon lamp to create an intense pulsating ultraviolet (UV) light that kills or prevents the replication of bacteria, spores, viruses, fungi, mycobacteria, C. diff spores, MRSA, VRE, pseudomonas, norovirus, and hundreds of other microorganisms which can cause healthcare associated infections (HAIs). This chemical-free disinfection system enhances traditional room cleaning. Studies have shown significant reductions of these superbugs with the use of this equipment.

Holy Spirit’s Urgent Care Center and Data Center Are Under Construction
Holy Spirit Health System’s Spirit Urgent Care Center and Data Center are currently under construction. A ceremony was held onsite today at 431 North 21st Street, Camp Hill, to commemorate the start of construction. The following people made brief remarks: Bruce Brown, Chairperson, Holy Spirit Health System; Sister Romaine Niemeyer, SCC, President and CEO, Holy Spirit Health System; David Black, President and CEO of the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC; Edith Dees, Vice President and Chief Information Officer, Holy Spirit Health System; and Rick Schaffner, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Holy Spirit Health System.
Coventry HealthAmerica and Holy Spirit Health System partner to improve care for chronic illnesses
Coventry HealthAmerica, a Coventry Health Care plan, and Holy Spirit Health System have formed a new physician partnership program that will improve management of diseases and access to care for Coventry HealthAmerica members, particularly those who suffer from chronic illnesses. The goal of the program, which Holy Spirit has successfully offered to other patients, is to improve patient health and quality of care. This will result in the added benefit of decreasing the need for emergency room visits and hospitalization for patients with chronic conditions, such as diabetes and congestive heart failure.
