World-Class OB/GYN Surgery
Holy Spirit Health System’s talented, board-certified physicians use the latest medical and surgical techniques to diagnose and treat gynecological conditions.
Restorative Reproductive Medicine
Our OB/GYN experts use both medical and surgical approaches to achieve the goal of restoring your body’s reproductive system to its natural state. Procedures are often combined in order to maximize the opportunity to diagnose and treat anatomic abnormalities, because correcting the anatomy helps to return the reproductive function to normal.
Minimally Invasive Surgical Techniques
At the Centers for Women’s Health, most surgeries are performed using minimally invasive techniques such as traditional laparoscopy, da Vinci® surgery and KTP or CO2 Lasers. These advanced techniques can be used to diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions, including:
- Pelvic adhesions
- Ovarian cysts
- Tubal obstructions
- Polycystic Ovarian Disease
The benefits of minimally invasive surgery include shorter hospital stays, smaller incisions, a faster recovery and a quicker return to daily activities.
Advanced Endometriosis Treatment
Even the most severe endometriosis can be successfully treated using da Vinci surgery. The enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control of the da Vinci robot allows a more thorough removal of deeply penetrated or widespread endometrial implants.
At the Center for Women’s Health, we treat some types of infertility using a selective hysterosalpingogram (HSG). Our physicians have unique expertise in this advanced technique, which can be used to diagnose and treat obstructions in the fallopian tubes, making natural conception possible.
Treatment of Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD)
Our surgeons treat PCOD by performing an ovarian wedge resection, which typically lasts 2-3 hours. During the course of the surgery, a wedge of tissue is removed from the middle portion of the ovary using techniques that limit scar formation. This procedure results in regular menstrual cycles and ovulation, leading to an improvement in fertility. The pregnancy rate following the ovarian wedge resection is nearly 70 percent.
Scar Tissue Prevention
Scar tissue can cause pain, hinder movement and put pressure on internal organs. Preventing scar tissue involves many aspects of surgery, including techniques used, types of sutures, control of minor bleeding, use of irrigation and use of anti-adhesion medications.
