Surgical Care Improvements
Medicare Quality Measures: Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP)
SCIP is a national partnership dedicated to reducing the number of preventable surgical complications. SCIP includes a number of steps that surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and patients can take to lower the number of surgical problems. It is sponsored by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in collaboration with other national organizations such as the American Hospital Association (AHA), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), and The Joint Commission (TJC). The partnership’s main goal is to save lives by reducing the incidence of surgical complications by 25 percent by the year 2010. Below is how Holy Spirit Hospital performance compared to both national and state averages. This information is available at Hospital Compare.
